C9 vs. Mini Lights: Which Christmas Lights Look Best on Your Roofline?

October 20, 2026

Walk any Granite Bay or Roseville neighborhood in December and you'll see two main types of lights: big C9 bulbs and small mini lights. Each has a place. Here's how we decide what goes where.

C9 bulbs: the roofline standard

C9s are the larger, classic-shaped bulbs. They're bright, easy to see from the street, and they create clean, evenly spaced lines along gutters and peaks. That's why most professional roofline installs use them. In our installs we space them evenly so the line looks crisp from the curb.

Mini lights: best for trees and bushes

Mini lights are small and dense. They're perfect for wrapping tree trunks and branches, covering shrubs, and adding a soft glow to railings and garland. On a roofline, they can look thin from the street.

The most popular combination

A warm white C9 roofline paired with mini lights wrapped on trees is the look we install most. It's clean, bright and works on almost every style of home.

LED vs. incandescent

We use commercial-grade LEDs. They use far less power, stay cool, and hold their color better than older incandescent strands.
