Will Christmas Lights Damage My Roof or Gutters?

A lot of homeowners skip holiday lights because they're worried about their roof. It's a fair concern. Nails, staples and the wrong kind of clips can cause real damage. The good news is that lights don't have to hurt your home at all.

What causes damage

• Nails and staples. They leave holes in fascia, trim and shingles that can let water in.
• Lifting shingles too far. Bending shingles back to force clips under them can crack them.
• Walking a roof carelessly. Stepping in the wrong spots can scuff or break tiles and shingles.

How we install without damage

We use clips designed for shingles and gutters, with no nails or staples. Clips hold the lights in place and come off cleanly at takedown, so nothing is left behind.

What about takedown?

Takedown matters as much as install. Yanking strands down is how gutters get bent and clips get left on the roof. We take everything down by hand in January and store it until next season.
